Monmouth Park Racetrack

Monmouth Park has been a popular horse racing destination at the Jersey Shore since 1870. The park is located in Oceanport, New Jersey. Some of the original races held at the park include the Freehold Stakes, the Monmouth Cup and the Champion Stakes. The park is home to the $1 million Haskell Invitational, run every August. Over the past 144 years, three different buildings have been home to Monmouth Park. The idea for the park came from a group of businessmen to increase trade during the summer.

Monmouth Park has become a go-to track for horse bettors and general fans alike during its history. With three major races each year, there are plenty of horses to bet on at the Haskell Invitational, the United Nations Stakes and the Monmouth Stakes.

United Nations Stakes

The United Nations Stakes is held each year at Monmouth Park in the month of July. With a purse of $750,000, it is one of the largest races in the state for thoroughbreds three-years and older. This race is 1 and 3/8 miles and is run on a grass. This race is part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series, with the winner gaining entry in the Breeders' Cup Turf.

Haskell Invitational

The Haskell Invitational occurs annually in July and has a purse of $1 million. It is an invitation only event for thoroughbreds who are three-years-old. This race is 1 and 1/8 miles and is run on dirt. The race was first run in 1968 and it is named for Amory L. Haskell, the first president and chairman of the Monmouth Park Jockey Club.
