Wedding Toast Back in Action in $60,000 Miami Shore Handicap
On Wednesday at Gulfstream Park, the featured race is the $60,000 Miami Shore Handicap. The seven-furlong contest has drawn a full field of twelve fillies and mares.
Wedding Toast, a graded stakes winner who has been plagued by layoffs, is the morning line favorite at 2-1 for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. After being on the shelf for five months, she returned in April of 2014 to finish second in the Cat Cay Stakes and will be making her first start off of a nine-month break. Jose Lezcano will be aboard and they will break from post position eleven.
Martin Wolfson loaded with five starters
Second choice at 9-2 on the morning line is Ol Donyo , one of five starters in the race for trainer Martin Wolfson. A five-year-old daughter of Curlin, she has won four of her thirteen career starts including two stakes races. She was last seen finishing third in the Sugar Swirl Stakes at Gulfstream and has been training steadily since then. John Velazquez will be aboard for the first time and they are scheduled to break from post position four.
Ice for the Lady gets a switch to red-hot Saez
Also in the field at morning line odds of 20-1 is longshot Ice for the Lady who gets the talents of the hot jockey Luis Saez. On January 4, Saez dominated the Gulfstream Park card with five winners. Ice for the Lady, a four-year-old daughter of Flatter trained by Gerald Bennett, has won four of her nine starts including a minor stakes race. She was fourth against optional claiming company on the turf last time out and will break from post three.
