Plenty of Value in $100,000 Chick Lang Stakes
Gimme Da Lute, the lukewarm 3/1 morning line choice, finished third in the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile on Kentucky Derby day at Churchill Downs, finishing six lengths behind the well-regarded Competitive Edge. Prior to that effort Gimme Da Lute, trained by Bob Baffert, was an impressive winner of the $200,000 Echo Eddie Stakes April 4 at Santa Anita defeating a pair of next-out winners by 5 ¼ and 9 lengths respectively. Regular rider Martin Garcia, who has been aboard the colt for all four career starts, retains the mount breaking from post seven. With an abundance of early speed signed on, Gimme Da Lute’s ability to rate from just off the pace should afford the colt a favorable trip.
Grand Bili should be a nice price
Grand Bili, 12/1 may represent a live longshot for trainer Gustavo Delgado who ships the promising colt in from Gulfstream Park after a second place effort against optional claiming foes April 9 in career start number two. That effort – which earned an 85 Beyer Speed Figure – was the colt’s first start since breaking his maiden at first-asking February 1 at Gulstream. Gustavo connects at impressive 28% clip with runners making their second start following layoffs of 45-180 days.
Asmussen runner goes for three straight
Holy Boss will seek his third consecutive win for trainer Steve Asmussen after winning a pair of races at Oaklawn including the $100,000 Bachelor Stakes April 10.
