Kitten's Point the Heavy Favorite in $125,000 Dowager Stakes
On Sunday at Keeneland, the featured race is the $125,000 Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes. Scheduled to be run at a mile and a half on the turf, the Grade 3 event has attracted a field of ten fillies and mares.
Kitten’s Point tops the field as the heavy favorite at odds of 8-5 and is one of two fillies in the race for trainer Graham Motion. A five-year-old daughter of Kitten’s Joy bred and owned by George Strawbridge, Jr.’s Augustin Stables, she has won six of her eighteen starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. She has three victories so far this year and was last seen winning the Mrs. Penny Stakes at Parx. Edgar Prado will be in the irons and they will break from the rail.
Miss Chatelaine tops loaded pair for Clement
Miss Chatelaine is the second choice in the race at odds of 5-1 for trainer Christophe Clement who will also saddle Trophee (FR). Miss Chatelaine, a three-year-old daughter of Pulpit, cost $245,000 as a two-year-old and has won three of her six starts. She is stepping back up to stakes competition after winning an optional claiming race last time out and will break from post position nine under jockey Joe Bravo.
Stakes debut for well-bred Interject
Also in the field at morning line odds of 12-1 is Interject, a longshot for trainer Neil Drysdale. A four-year-old daughter of Empire Maker, the four-year-old filly began her career in Europe and has won a total of two of her ten starts. She will be making her first start against stakes company and earned her second victory last time out in an optional claiming race. Brian Hernandez, Jr. will be aboard from post three.
