$100,000 Memories of Silver is Feature at Big A
The $100,000 Memories of Silver Stakes, a mile and a sixteenth grass race for three year-old fillies, is the featured event April 24 at Aqueduct.
Todd Pletcher trains the 3/1 morning line favorite Lira, who has won 3 of 5 starts including the Ginger Brew Stakes January 2 at Gulfstream Park. The daughter of Giant's Causeway began her career 3 for 3 before finishing second in the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride Stakes and third in the Sanibel Island Handicap. This will be Lira's first start outside of the state of Florida as she looks to get back on track while breaking from the rail under jockey Luis Saez. Lira is sure to be a much shorter price than her morning line indicates in a scratch-shortened field of six.
Stakes winner goes for repeat
Pricedtoperfection (7/2) hails from the always-dangerous Chad Brown barn and looks to stay sharp following her win in the Grade 3 Sweetest Chant Stakes January 30 at Gulfstream Park. A winner in 2 of 5 career starts, Pricedtoperfection ran second behind Lira in the Ginger Brew stakes. Brown connects at a 23% clip with runners returning from 60-180-day layoffs and jockey Irad Ortiz gets the call for a barn he's experienced plenty of success with over the years.
Brown trainee returns from BC Juvenile Fillies effort
Brown will also saddle Last Waltz, an interesting outsider at 10/1 on the morning line. The Irish-bred filly has just a maiden win to her credit, but was obviously well-thought of by her connections who ran the filly in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies last year. Last Waltz has not started since finishing tenth in that race, but could surprise in this spot for a trainer that does well with imports and horses coming off extended layoffs.
